A little bio

My name is Mark Gammon. I recently completed my PhD in sociology with an emphasis on the social and cultural aspects of new media/technologies. I describe myself as a social technologist because I’m interested in what’s happening @ the intersection of people & technology.

I work in higher education doing training and consulting related to the use of educational, instructional, Web 2.0, and social technologies. I teach classes on the sociology of media and technology, have several research papers going, a social media book proposal, and am toying with a startup...

Feel free to get in touch if you'd like to talk more about any of this, or other:

Mark Gammon replied to Renee Hopkins's discussion Q17 REMIX: How do our 13 CORE SM PRINCIPLES impact today's organizations?

Mark Gammon replied to Renee Hopkins's discussion Q17 REMIX: How do our 13 CORE SM PRINCIPLES impact today's organizations?
"The one keyword that is missing for me and that I talk with users/potential uses about a lot if they want to find value in SM is relevance. Lots of people I know jump into SM and then feel disappointed because they say there was nothing interesting…"

Mark Gammon replied to Renee Hopkins's discussion Q17 What underlying SM or Web 2.0 principles are impacting today's organizations?
"I think it's a key nuance between public and visible for just what Alasdair points out. There are lots of ways that social media gets used that is not public in the large sense, but rather public (or more specifically, visible) to a particular…"
